ATLANTA FLYING DISC CLUB TEAMS UP WITH GEORGIA SOCCER PARK

The Atlanta Flying Disc Club (AFDC) and Georgia Soccer Park (GSP) unite to form strong partnership in South Fulton County.  By the name, Georgia Soccer Park may imply that it only supports and provides for 'soccer' related programs, but in reality soccer is only one of many sports that GSP caters to.  The AFDC has decided to take their involvement with the Park a step further and become a partner by making a financial contribution that will fully fund the development of GSP's sixth field, which is scheduled to be ready for play September 1, 2009.

"GSP is pleased and excited to welcome AFDC as a new partner," said Tom Deaver, The Executive Director.  "By partnering with well-established community athletic organizations and programs, we are able to expand both what the local residents can find at our Park and the positive impact of this organization."

The AFDC is dedicated to promoting the game of Ultimate in Atlanta.  The AFDC is a non-profit organization that currently has over 1000 members and continues to grow.  The excitement of the Park and what it is providing to the community is contagious and AFDC recognizes this and wants to be a part of it now and in the future.  "I believe that this partnership will be of benefit to both parties as GSP will now be partnered with a well-organized adult athletic organization with a large and loyal membership, while AFDC will be linked to and able to participate on world-class fields at a beautiful facility with a great vision," said Jenny Lee, President of the AFDC.

GSP is home to a diverse mix of soccer programs as well as other sporting events, tournaments and leagues.  In addition to soccer programs, GSP has also hosted USA Rugby 7s, AFDC and UPA Ultimate Frisbee, USA Lacrosse, Gaelic Football, and various sports camps.  GSP's tenant youth soccer programs include the USSF National Development Academy, USYSA Region III Premier League, Atlanta Cup, Norcross Nike Cup, Concorde Fire Challenge Cup, and GYSA leagues.  Our adult soccer programs include the Liga Metropolitana and the Atlanta District Amateur Soccer League.

The high level soccer programs compliment the recreational programs and charitable outreach programs that involve some of South Fulton and Southwest Atlanta's disadvantaged youth.  GSP is happy to provide free field space to these wonderful programs, including America Scores and Soccer in the Streets, and hopes to raise the funds needed to build an on-site study hall to house the educational portions of these after-school programs soon.

America SCORES Cup - Thursday, March 20, 2008

As part of GSP's initiative of community outreach, we are hosting the America SCORES Cup on Saturday, April 25th.  This is a 7v7 corporate fundraising soccer tournament benefitting America SCORES Atlanta, the only non-profit organization that uses soccer to inspire literacy and health among inner-city youth.

America SCORES Atlanta helps in educating children through after-school programs in soccer, literacy, and service-learning.  By participating in a team sport the children learn the importance of team work, leadership, conflict resolution, and a healthy active lifestyle.

GSP Entry Fee Information - Monday, November 16, 2009

Dear Valued GSP Visitors,

Georgia Soccer Park, like many other parks, has had a problem with thieves breaking into cars in the parking lot to steal the valuables people leave in their cars while at the Park. You probably have heard about people from your league having damage or loss to their cars at GSP. We think of GSP as home and you and your members are part of the GSP family. Once the problem began we started warning people of the problem, watching for thieves, and even setting up police surveillance. Unfortunately, those efforts were not enough to stop the break-ins.

In another attempt to resolve the problem and protect our visitors, GSP hired someone to collect a $1.00 car entry fee, mainly so he could stop and get a look at everyone coming into the Park.  The idea was to deter the thieves from even entering the Park.  This IS working and GSP has not had any break-ins in the last 3-4 months.  On occasion they have paid the $1 and entered the Park, but the worker at the gate has been able to keep an eye on the parking lot and has been able to chase any potential thieves off before any damage was done.

We apologize for the inconvenience of making everyone stop and pay an extra dollar per car, but it is a system that works and it is our attempt of providing a safe environment for you and your kids. The $1.00 goes to pay for the time and labor it takes to try and keep your car and valuables safe. If there are any profits from the entry fee after labor is paid, that money will go toward further development of the Park and pay for things such as: shelters for shade, backstops behind the goals, and permanent restrooms.

Please know that there is no liability assumed by GSP or the worker at the gate. Please secure all of your valuables.

GSP is a non-profit 501-c3 organization, and no one is making any money from this fee. If you would like a receipt for your $1 payment, please ask upon entry.  Also, we would be happy to write you a receipt for any additional amount you’d like to donate to the park, which is tax deductible.

Referees are not required to pay the fee if they show their uniform or badge and tell the worker which game they are working that day.

Please pass this information onto your members and guests so they are aware. We hope everyone has an enjoyable visit to our Park and we thank you for your understanding and supporting us.

Enjoy the park,

GSP Staff
